• Yellow Pages: The "Yellow Pages" (AKA Yellow Book) was where the first mass company listings appeared. Telephone companies would list all companies in the yellow pages section of their phone book under the appropriate headings (such as apparel, electronic shop, etc.). The phone company would provide a free listing in rather small print and offer business the opportunity for a more robust listing that included color advertisements, large font, large type, and banners.
