Voicemail Software Alternative To Hardware
Voicemail software is a good alternative to outsourcing to a voicemail provider if you only need "standard" voicemail service. With voicemail software, simply install the program onto your computer and you have created a voicemail solution that can act as a single answering machine or a multi box voicemail system that can make you look like a large corporation.
As with any software, it is only as robust as the computer and its hardware. If you wanted the software to manage more than a single telephone line, you would need some type of telephony board to connect multiple phone lines and route them into your system. Most computers come equipped with a single inbound telephone line usually available through a modem port so more robust applications require a non stock type of equipment.
Popular features of most software includes the following:
- Multiple telephone line support with the right telecom hardware integrated with your computer
- Unlimited voicemail box support that is only capped by the amount of disk space your computer has free
- Text to speech capabilities to record your greetings
- Messages recorded as audio files (usually .wav or .mp3) and saved on the computer itself or sent via email
